1978 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am

This 1978 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am was restored and assembled by Killer Customs & Performance in 2008, now operating as Speedtech Performance in St. George, Utah, and was acquired by the current owner in 2024. The car is powered by a 572ci Merlin V8 linked with a six-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential, and upgrades installed under current ownership include Holley Terminator X electronic fuel injection, 1,000cc FIC fuel injectors, a high-torque mini starter, an aluminum radiator, an ATI Super Damper harmonic crankshaft balancer, a hydraulically actuated McLeod RXT twin-disc clutch, and more as detailed below. Finished in Starlight Black over black leather, the car is further equipped with long-tube headers, Magnaflow mufflers, a revised front subframe, aftermarket sway bars, tubular control arms, traction bars, adjustable QA1 coilovers, Baer disc brakes, 19″ Forgeline alloy wheels, front and rear spoilers, a shaker-style hood, removable glass T-top roof panels, and power windows. The interior features custom rear seats, air conditioning, a Viper alarm system, and a Bluetooth-capable Alpine stereo linked to a custom Focal sound system. This modified Trans Am has 49k miles and is offered on dealer consignment with recent service records, a modification summary, and a clean Montana title.

The car is finished in Starlight Black with a gold-airbrushed eagle on the hood. Exterior details include a front lip spoiler, a shaker-style hood, vented fenders, removable T-top glass roof panels, remote door poppers, a rear lip spoiler, and quad exhaust outlets.

Gold-finished 19″ Forgeline web-spoke alloy wheels with black faces were mounted with ARP wheel studs and Continental ExtremeContact tires in preparation for the sale. The rear wheel tubs have been widened, and the lowered suspension features a revised front subframe, aftermarket sway bars, tubular control arms, traction bars, and adjustable QA1 coilovers. Braking is handled by upgraded front and rear Baer big brake kits featuring gold six-piston calipers over slotted and cross-drilled rotors. Portions of the photo gallery were captured before the new tires were installed.

The front bucket seats and custom individual rear seats are trimmed in black leather that extends to the dashboard, center console, and door panels. A Viper alarm system was installed under current ownership along with a Bluetooth-capable Alpine stereo linked to Focal amplifiers and speakers. Appointments also include a roll bar, air conditioning, and a Hurst shifter.

The leather-wrapped steering wheel fronts gold engine-turned instrumentation consisting of a 160-mph speedometer, a 10k-rpm tachometer, and gauges for oil pressure, coolant temperature, voltage, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 49k miles, approximately 4k of which were added under current ownership. The tachometer was replaced in May 2025.

The all-aluminum 572ci Merlin V-8 features the following components:

Most of the above modifications were installed in 2025, as well as a replacement ignition switch, an Optima Red Top battery, and reinforced four-gauge battery wiring with marine-grade terminals. Additional service involved swapping out the exhaust hangers with polyurethane multi-hole exhaust mounts and replacing the hood release switch. Invoices and an owner-provided modification summary presented in the gallery detail the work performed, upgrades installed, and associated costs.

Driveline reinforcements are installed and power is routed to the rear wheels through a hydraulically actuated McLeod RXT twin-disc clutch, a recently resealed Tremec Magnum six-speed manual transmission, and a modified Ford 9″ rear with a limited-slip differential and 3.70:1 gearing. Scrapes are visible on the front subframe.
