When Ferdinand Porsche first founded Porsche in Stuttgart, Germany in 1913, the company did not actually manufacture any vehicles under its own name. Instead, they offered motor vehicle development work and consulting services. One of their first projects was an assignment from the German government to develop a vehicle for the people: a volks-wagen. As you may have guessed, this resulted in the Volkswagen Beetle, one of the most successful car designs ever made, and later, in 1939, the Porsche 64 was developed using many of the Beetle’s components.
